MSRP for Nissan Skyline GT-R When New
The modern Nissan Skyline GT-R sold from 1989 to 2002 was a premium vehicle. When it was released in 1989, the price was at the upper end of Japanese or JDM cars sold locally. Since the car was only sold in Japan, other than very limited numbers overseas, the MSRP is in yen. The yen to dollar conversion rate, while relevant to someone overseas, isn't really relevant if you lived in Japan.

4,445,000 yen / 142 yen to a dollar is $31,302 (1989) dollars. According to one internet calculator $31,302 in 1989, would be the equivalent of $65,157 today. That would be more than a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8, or a 2020 Toyota Supra. So by no means was an R32 GT-R an affordable car. It was a fairly exclusive sports car.
